The Tottenham to Albury (T2A) project is one of the 13 stages that make up the overall Inland Rail Program, the largest infrastructure project undertaken in Australia’s history. Starting at Tottenham in Melbourne’s outskirts and finishing at the Murray River in Victoria, the T2A project will provide sufficient clearance for larger double-stacked freight trains to run from Melbourne to connect with projects further north in NSW.
Lycopodium provided Reference Track Alignment Design for track slew works to increase track centres along the T2A segment as required for safe operations of double stacked containers.
In order to perform the track alignment design, survey of the existing line had been undertaken by ARTC. This information was then used to develop the Reference Track Alignment design and identify the locations, extents and amount to which tracks are required to be slewed during the physical delivery of the project.
The design was completed in Preliminary and Reference design phases. The delivery of the Services results in track alignment documentation for track slew works which is constructible and provides all required necessary Design Documentation for the approval of relevant state agencies and authorities, such that ARTC is able to tender and engage a suitably qualified Contractor to construct the track slew works. This Reference Design documentation will then be utilised along with other design disciplines to finalise the next stage of design and delivery for the overall package of work.
