Rail Infrastructure

Spur Hill Coal Project

Australia, NSW
Lycopodium was engaged by Malabar Coal to develop the concept design for their Spur Hill underground coal mine non-process rail infrastructure.

Through this engagement, Lycopodium developed a number of concept options and have since been retained by Malabar Coal to investigate the rail infrastructure at Drayton Coal Loop with a view to supporting out-loading operations for Spur Hill.

Spur Hill Underground is a coking coal development project located in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales. The project is within the Upper Hunter coal corridor which contains a number of operating coal mines and development projects.

Lycopodium’s scope included the procurement of digital terrain data, development of track concept designs which included earthworks modelling, hydraulic modelling, bridge design, level crossing and road intersection concept designs, rail operational modelling and negotiation with Network owner ARTC on the proposed mainline connection agreement.

“It is Malabar’s strong view that this new underground proposal, which is completely different from past proposals for the site, can coexist with other industries and land uses in the area, including local horse studs”
