Muswellbrook Rail Bridges Upgrade

Australia, NSW
Lycopodium was engaged to deliver detailed track and civil design services as well as concept and detailed signalling design of three bridge structures in Muswellbrook, NSW.

Lycopodium was engaged by Cardno / Laing O’Rourke to deliver detailed track and civil design services as well as concept and detailed signalling design for a number of upgrades as part of the replacement of three bridge structures in Muswellbrook, New South Wales.

Muswellbrook Rail Junction is a major merging point for export coal being transported from the Namoi basin (via Main Northern Rail Line) and Upper Hunter Valley (Ulan Rail Line) to the port of Newcastle.

There are 3 major rail underbridges on the Ulan Line – Bridge St, Muscle Creek and Hunter River underbridges which require replacement due to increasing maintenance costs. This is as a result of a number of the steel superstructure elements having reached their theoretical fatigue lives. As a result of the fatigued elements temporary speed restrictions are regularly required on the three structures which impact network capacity.

The project is being delivered using specialist track and civil designers from the Lycopodium office in Newcastle, capably supported by our civil design and drafting resources based in Manilla.
