Manildra Turnout Replacement and Track Reconditioning Design

Australia, NSW
Lycopodium was engaged to complete an Issue for Construction (IFC) design for the ageing Manildra yard.

Manildra is a small yet economically significant town located around 40km from Orange in the New South Wales Central West region. It is home to the biggest flour mill in Australia, along with a large canola oil plant. Lycopodium was engaged to complete an Issue for Construction (IFC) design for the ageing Manildra yard.

As a result of consistent traffic and aging infrastructure, the overall condition of the Manildra yard had become quite dilapidated. Furthermore, the current arrangement did not adequately convey stormwater away from the yard, causing ponding and exacerbating issues with the formation due to infiltration. Lycopodium was engaged to complete an IFC design for the following components:

  • 1 x mainline turnout replacement
  • 1 x crossover replacement
  • Extensive track and formation upgrades to mainline and sidings including drainage improvement works
  • Engagement and management of a specialist Mechanical Signalling resource to design and supply equipment for new turnout upgrades

Manildra is a closed railway station on the Broken Hill railway line in New South Wales. Manildra is home to the Manildra Group, the largest industrial wheat producer in Australia, and various rail sidings allow goods trains to service the mill.
